Joy—erected as a bulwark, as a shield, as a trench?

My joy as a trench is the tenderness of our presence as a foundation, as a base, as a starting point.

To let anger rise, to voice it in front of you because I have every right to. To let it escape because it’s
impossible to hold back—bursts of it—because it feels good, because we need it, because they’re legitimate, and because letting them out might just save us from what’s coming? It’s a play for three performers, a hundred audience members, and smoke. Lots of smoke.

It’s about protecting our joys with our teeth if we have to. It’s about how we don’t give up. We won’t give up.
