LE TOUR DES HOMMES INTÈGRES
Photographer Marc Gouby takes us on a black-and-white journey %E0 through Burkina Faso in the late 1990s. A look back at another era—the era of film photography and bicycles without frills or sponsors, of sports free of doping, and of images that are earned and captured through an encounter with the subject.
In Marc Gouby’s images, it is rare for a gaze not to be directed toward the viewer—or even addressed directly to them—because, for the artist, photography is first and foremost about an encounter, or even an exchange. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons why his work unfolds over a long period of time and is deeply rooted in close proximity to his subjects: here, the legendary West African bicycle race and, above all, those who participate in it—captured in portraits, landscapes, and the movement of wheels on packed sand.
The opening reception will be held in the presence of the photographer on Friday, July 10, at 6 p.m. Around 7:30 p.m., we will offer light refreshments and a bar, accompanied by music featuring Salimata Diabaté on the balafon and vocals.
Presented by the Village des Arts et Métiers and the Tazunt association.
